Saffron Terror's 'fair' face

From out of the shadows, a young woman, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, has emerged as the best known face of Saffron Terror. According to the police team investigating the blasts at Malegaon in Maharashtra, she is one of the prime accused in the case.

The following is a profile of the woman circulated by Sify.com:

Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur (36), who has been arrested in connection with Malegaon and Modasa blasts, was known for her aggression as a young girl. She was known as a ‘girl with boyish looks.’

From her college days, Pragya has showed passion for motorcycles which, in fact, proved costly for her, as the vehicle used in the Malegaon blasts was registered in her name and this led to her arrest.

Her classmates recall her as a straight-forward person who always stood for national and Hindutva issues. `There is nothing wrong in fighting injustice,` her father Chandrapal Singh Thakur, who is an ayurved practitioner, says.

Apparently shocked by the exposure of the alleged terrorist links of one of its bright young cadres, the Sangh Parivar initially responded in a muted manner. All that its leaders could bring themselves to saying was that there should be proper investigation before action is taken. When Muslim youths were charged with terrorism under similar circumstances, the Sangh Parivar did not see any need for proper investigation before the police proceeded in the matter. Indeed, it did not even see anything wrong in the shooting of such persons if they were Muslims. Within days the Sangh Parivar regained its composure and began a brazen defence of the Sadhvi.

It is for the courts to decide whether the police allegations are true. Sadhvi Pragya and the Muslim youths are equally entitled to the protection of the law.
